It’s been a decade since I had the chance to visit Dublin prior to recently road-tripping the Wild Atlantic Way. While celebrating the iconic Holiday, St. Patrick’s Day in Dublin, I was told that the EPIC Museum was a must see in the city. I found myself with time and decided that I would see what all the hype was about. Visiting the EPIC Museum in Dublin would come to be unlike any other museum visit.
Did you know that over 70 million people claim Irish ancestry living outside of Ireland? I couldn’t believe the number when I heard it either. Rather than boring you with an entire accounting of the whole visit, I thought I would share some cool facts I learned instead.
It’s full name is EPIC, The Irish Emigration Museum and it opened its doors in 2016.
Situated in the heart of Dublin, it’s located in the part known as the Docklands. The CHQ Building it calls home, stands for “Custom House Quay” and it sits on the River Liffey.
The museum celebrates Irish culture and history and you will leave knowing what its like to truly be Irish. You will also discover why people left, came back and how they influenced the world.
It has the coolest interactive experiences that I have ever seen in a museum before. You can touch, play and even sing along!
Your ‘passport’ gets stamped at every exhibition and by the end, you will walk away with 20 new stamps!
The museum continues to win awards year after year. It was named Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction in 2019, 2020, and 2021.
