The resort town of Banff, in the province of Alberta, Canada, is a beautiful place to visit any time of year. Despite the freezing temperatures, I’m particularly fond of winter and Banff did not disappoint. Whether you enjoy horseback riding, hiking, shopping, or relaxing by a good fire, Banff certainly has everything you need to make your stay a memorable one.
Start your journey in Johnston Canyon. Located in Banff National Park, it has a set of catwalks built directly into the canyon that allow you to walk right through it. If you’re visiting during summertime, you’ll see water cascading down the sides, but winter freezes the waterfalls creating beautiful ice sculptures.
Soothe your aching muscles after the 3.4 mile hike by taking a dip in Banff’s only hot springs pool. When you’re ready to get going again, explore historic downtown Banff’s shopping and restaurant scenes.
Want to take a day trip? Head to Lake Louise for snowshoeing, ice skating, cross country skiing, hiking, and canoeing. Tired of the outdoors? Take a break in the Fairmont Chateau and watch all the action from their Lakeview Lounge.
If you’re interested in getting a different perspective, take the #1 bus to the end of the line and get off at the Gondola. After a short ride, you’ll reach the summit of Sulphur Mountain and the breath taking views that await of the mountain ranges and Bow Valley.
Enjoy an afternoon at Warner Stables. Whether you’re a horseback riding enthusiast or simply prefer the comfort of a sleigh ride, the cowboys (and girls) will make sure you have an enjoyable experience.
Most importantly, stop to take in all of the scenery. Trust me, you’ll thank me later.
This is so much fun as I will never do all of this traveling but at least I will be able to live it thru your eyes. Thank you Stephanie
Thanks so much Cathy!!
