Ah, Northern Ireland. What started off as a desire to begin my Wild Atlantic Way road trip here, ended with me falling completely in love with this country. Belfast is the perfect (and convenient) place to kick off your trip to Northern Ireland. Make sure to hop on the City Sightseeing Bus to get an introduction to the city and struggles this country has faced. You don’t want to miss seeing the Peace Wall and getting a chance to learn about the Titanic!

Now that you’re settled in and the jet lag has worn off, hop in your car and begin your journey to explore more of this beautiful land. On your way up north, stop by Carrickfergus Castle. Home to canons from the 17th and 19th century, this castle also has many historical exhibits to look at as well. Before you get on the road again, stop and grab a snack and hot chocolate from Rumors Coffee House. Trust me, you won’t regret it!

Nothing beats the absolutely stunning scenery that will greet you once you’ve made it to the North Coast. The Giant’s Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, Dunluce Castle, Mussenden Temple and The Dark Hedges await you. I recommend staying in either Portrush or Portstewart while visiting. This will put you within a 20 to 30 minutes drive to all of the top sites!

No trip to Northern Ireland would be complete without visiting Londonderry or Derry to the locals. I was completely moved by the history this city has faced. The murals scattered throughout the city portray not only that, but the violence that has occurred as well. A time when 13 protestors were killed and 17 wounded during a protest march that became known as Bloody Sunday.

From city streets to  stunning coastal views, I hope these 20 photos inspire you to visit to Northern Ireland!

Northern Ireland is the world’s best kept secret. Both in the character of its people and its scenery.
